Are you tired of playing against openings that your opponent knows every variation of down to the umpteenth move? Would you rather play openings with moves that immediately create problems for your opponent? Openings full of traps, and, surprise, surprise, some of them even safe and sound? Do you think that 1. e4 is the most boring move that exists? If your answers to these questions are yes, then perhaps this book is something for you.

This book presents an opening repertoire for White consisting of variations that are rarely found in books, openings that your opponent probably never has encountered or even heard of, with strange names like the Blackmar-Diemer gambit, the Gibbins-Weidenhagen gambit, the Winckelmann-Reimer gambit, the Diemer-Duhm gambit …

The backbone of the repertoire is the Blackmar-Diemer gambit: 1. d4 d5 2. e4 dxe4 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. f3, a gambit often leading to highly spectacular and dramatic games, with excellent attacking chances for White. It is of course possible for Black to avoid the gambit, but the book presents ways of dealing with these variations too, with surprising moves, traps, and attacking strategies. Here is a repertoire for the “Romantic D-Opener”.
